The Iron Age Carnyx. A Celtic Musical Journey from Bonn to India
Recent research has revealed that a nineteenth-century find from Abentheuer (Kr. Birkenfeld), now in the LVR-Landesmuseum Bonn, is a very rare fragment of a carnyx, an Iron Age animal-headed bronze horn. Carnyces were once widespread across Celtic Europe, and were feared by the Roman legions who faced them in battle, but only twenty fragments now survive. This talk will travel from Scotland to India to find out about this remarkable Iron Age instrument.
